Vivo Music’s New Cape Town Retail Space

We’re excited to announce our new retail store in Cape Town, situated at 1 Duke Road, Rondebosch. Vivo Music had been a home based and then online business since inception, but we recently took the decision to move it into a physical shop at about the same time as Peter began his role as Trinity College London National Manager. Although the space will predominantly be used as a Vivo Music retail space, the idea is that it will act as a central collection point for Trinity certificates and syllabus material in Cape Town and be used to host Trinity related educational events in future. Although the exact nature of events is yet to be determined, a central hub from which to run them will benefit the community.

When choosing a location for our the Vivo Music shop, we wanted somewhere relatively central, although admittedly only for the Southern Suburbs, and somewhere close to our various school customers. Another consideration was to find a quiet location with excellent parking, all of which we have achieved. It’s been a long time since there was a sheet music shop in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs, and we hope that it will be a valuable and appreciated addition to the musical community. The nature of retail has changed dramatically in recent years shifting to online shopping, and accordingly we have invested heavily in our new online store, but we also believe that when it comes to books and music there is a certain magic in being able to browse and perhaps find items you didn’t know you needed. The new Rondebosch space offers our customers just such an opportunity, as well as being a place from which customers who order online can collect. We hope to earn the trust and support of Cape Town’s teachers and musicians, and in so doing make a great success of the space.

Although cosy (read small), the shop is big enough to stock a good selection of books, and we welcome anyone interested to pop in and say hello and have a look at our selection. When designing the space, we tried to make it modern and inviting. Initial indications are positive, and it seems there is much interest and excitement. It’s already proving useful to add Trinity certificate collection to the space, allowing more choice to teachers and parents who want to collect, without the need to schedule a collection time.

We have a lovely piano in the shop (read more here), sponsored by our friends at Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos, and we hope to use it for exam play throughs, and book and syllabus reviews. It’s a work in progress, and we’ll try and find interesting ways to support the community over an above simply providing sheet music books.

We look forward to welcoming you, please pop in and say hello!
